GregTech, created by GregoriusT, is a Mod that completely overhauls Minecraft, adding numerous Machines and Materials, as well as adjusting Recipes for existing Items in order to make them fit with its System, and to make everything work well together, compatible and mostly exploit-free whenever possible.

GregTech is meant to extend the Game by making things more compatible, more reasonable and adding a lot of complex Machines, as well as generally useful Utility to make everything work together nicely.

People, who non-financially contributed to the Mod are credited in the mcmod. Some older GregTech Sourcecode does not exist anymore, so I cannot provide it if asked to. This makes it technically impossible to officially license those specific Versions under LGPL, but I still consider them Free to use for other purposes under the same terms GT6 has.

This Mod is not directed at casual Players in any Way, Shape or Form, it is a Mod that adds a very reliable System, with a very reliable Logic to the Game, that offers the most complexity of all Mods. Funky Locomotion adds Frames that can move large Block Constructions in any of the 6 cardinal directions. Music can even be downloaded via URL this might not work in some cases, but is still awesome. Enviromine for the Hydration Bar and the Temperature Bar. You can disable the earthquakes, cave-ins and physics in its Config. It also has its own Cave Dimension! Underground Biomes in case you want more variety in Rock Types in your World. Enhanced Biomes which will give you more Overground and more Underground Biomes at the same time!

It has all Ores that are needed for GregTech. Biomes o' Plenty a different Biome Mod, also for variety. You want to go to War against Players or Mobs or just like stuff you can use for Combat?

Here are some good recommendations for that:. Open Modular Turrets for plenty of Turrets and barbed Fences. Better bring Bane of Arthropods! Bring your Thermos Can for not getting your Drinks spoiled. Atum is a Desert Dimension with a few Bosses and Loot inside of it. Also very useful for Servers that need a Mining Dimension! A lot of so-called nerfs in GT6 are just incentives for a more streamlined experience. So if you ever feel limited with what you can do like grinding a lot of resources or just being in a technological dead-endremember that in GT6 there might be an easier way: in GregTech you will progress slowly, but it will be fun.

Gregtech Configs Guide

NEI is GregTech's best friend. GT has a lot of information in its tooltips and recipes being able to browse them is paramount. However, it can often show more recipes than are actually necessary or useful, as GregTech contains many, many 'recycling' recipes which simply convert materials into different forms, or break apart machinery into the metals used to make itand many recipes that can't be produced yet because the basic materials are not setup to spawn in the world.

One of the more important recipe category in NEI is " Combination smelting ". You can browse this category when you search for an alloy ingot recipe for instance Bronze. There's also a GT Book of Alloys in-game, but it's much more inconvenient because there's no search functionality in it, compared to NEI. GregTech ores generate in many forms, however the three that are the most useful are Small, Sand, and Gravel. Small Ores have a lower Mining Level than their regular versions, and when broken will drop Crushed Ore or a Gem if possible.

Sand and Gravel Ores are mined with a Shovel rather than a Pickaxe, however much more importantly, will obey gravity and fall if unsupported. This can be exploited by placing a Torch underneath the stack of falling sand to drop Sand and Gravel Ores without the tool mining levels that would normally be required. Because of this property of Sand Ores, Desert biomes can make for good starting locations, as with little luck can an ore vein be found at the surface and easily gathered.

The extended debug display can be opened by pressing the "F3" and "H" keys together. This display allows the player to view the Melting and Boiling Points of all items that can be thrown into a Smelting Crucible, along with their constituents. Of course you won't be able to carry lava or any other melted material. Another thing to note is that since Wooden Buckets are meant to place liquids into the world, you cannot drink from them. Use other means of bottling to drink.

This includes arrows tipped with radioactive materials, which cause Radiation Poisoning on hit. Carrying Milk can be a good idea, because Milk counters Radioactivity but remember: not in a bucket because you can't drink from it! One of the most valuable resources in the early game is loot. It can easily be worthwhile to only use Leather armor just to get the extra metal to get off the ground. Beware that only pristine items can be smelted in a crucible: used tools, or weapons cannot but armor now can be smelted, even when damaged.

GregTech also introduce its own worldgen structure type, Strongholdswhich is a big place with several rooms with a lot of loot in them, including chances of lots of metals like stainless steel, early "machines" such as crucibles, oil, portals, etc. Exploring in GregTech can be a rewarding activity, too!

A final general note: Creative mode is your best friend to experiment things. Energy types, Steam pipes, Recipes in the Crucible: there is a lot of complex things in GregTech and in the beginning it can be very difficult to understand all the intricacies of the mod.

So keep a Creative mode world on the side to test stuff.

Also this guide may become obsolete quite quickly because GT is updated every week, so take everything written here with a little bit of salt. When you start a new map with GT6 you'll want to establish your base.So you heard about this "really hard" modpack that takes Gregtech to the Nth degree and want to join in on the fun? Well first let's sit down and talk about what GTNH is and isn't, and who this modpack targets. GTNH is about taking the usual modball of magic and tech mods and making all the recipes Greg-ified.

This means there's really nothing easy any more. All recipes are gated and modified - even vanilla ones. Even a door will need advanced tools you won't get until the Steam era at least. That means lots of hard work. It also means a major sense of accomplishment when you open that gate to the next stage. Getting ingredients to make your first decent food.

Making your Electric Blast Furnace. Your first Thaumcraft wand. Launching your first rocket. Building a full scale chemical refinery. Instead of simply being a minor event in a game, each of these becomes moments of joy that you have now reached the next level. As stated above, this modpack is for people who enjoy hard challenges, and are willing and able to commit serious amounts of time to them.

At the beginning, this may mean hours of searching for the right ores. Later on you'll spend time building and rebuilding your technology infrastructure to handle the latest resource demand.

By the end, you'll practically have degrees in Gregtech chemical and electrical engineering - even a mage needs a technological base to supply resources!

By its nature, this pack works best on servers, where players can work together to search for resources and share information. Playing SP is inherently more difficult since every orevein must be found solely by you. Because of the amount of mods included, starting GTNH can take much longer than other modpacks.

On lower end PCs, 30 minute start times are normal. On even high end PCs, expect 5 minute start times. If Minecraft looks like it has locked up, wait a few more minutes. Also, default Java parameters usually don't work well, so its best to optimize your memory setup and other configuration options.

Almost every element on the Periodic Table and many kinds of real-life mineral and ore deposits are represented in mod. This guide lists all of the various ores and all of the ways they can be processed into elements. GregTech disables all Vanilla ores except Emerald Ore, because Mojang did weird things with it and replaces them with its own ore generation patterns.

These patterns are compatible either by default or through configuration with almost all ores from almost all other mods, so unless explicitly noted, ore generation from other mods can and should be disabled, as GregTech will compensate. GregTech ore blocks do not work exactly like other ore blocks. Most mods treat their ores as single blocks, with nothing special to them except for the few that must be silktouched or can be fortune mined.

This is mainly used to determine whether or not a Small Ore's drops can be enhanced by a Fortune pick. Their being TEs though has some unfortunate consequences: not all mods are prepared to deal with TE ore blocks, and so GregTech ores are not always mined by other mods' automated mining systems.

When viewed at steep angles, those overlays can exhibit some odd rendering behavior, either looking like black lines, white lines, or oddly transparent. It's hard to say exactly what the visual effect looks like, but once you've seen it once or twice you come to realize that it looks wrong, and that its looking wrong is a telltale sign of the presence of ore.

There are two types of ore generation: Small Ores and Mix Veins. Small Ores generate as semi-common single blocks. They are intended as a way to get started and acquire initial tools, but are not intended to be used as primary sources of metal for machinery. Additionally, they may drop a Dust or a Dirty Dust of the Stone they were found in. Small Ores cannot be picked up with a Silktouch Pickaxe, however a Fortune Pickaxe will slightly increase their yields. Importantly, Small Ores can be mined at 1 mining level lower than the ores they contain, allowing a miner with a Stone-level pickaxe to obtain enough Iron to craft an Iron Pickaxe.

Mix Veins can generate only one vein per 3x3 chunk area, however Mix Veins can contain hundreds or even thousands of blocks of ore. Mix Veins can contain up to four different ores. Vein contents are dependent upon height and dimension, but are not dependent upon biome. Veins can range in size from 16x16x5 up to 80x80x8 blocks, with very few and small gaps between ore blocks. Each of them can be a different ore. Primary, Secondary, and Inbetween ores are generated as stack ranges.

The upper levels of a vein will be almost all 'Primary' ore, the lower levels will be almost all 'Secondary' ore, and the middle levels will be mostly 'Inbetween' ore. In total, a vein will contain roughly equal portions of Primary and Secondary ore, slightly less Inbetween ore, and notably less Around ore. When viewed from a distance either via an X-Ray mod or after having removed all Stone in the area, ore Mix Veins look like large, somewhat oval-shaped clouds. Ore vein generation takes place as a series of steps.

First, at the center of every 3x3 chunk area a random ore mix is chosen. If that ore mix cannot generate within the current dimension, the generator tries again.

If the ore vein is allowed, a random height will be chosen within the mix vein's Minimum and Maximum height values, and ore generation will propagate out from that point. As such, it is possible to encounter areas that do not contain mix veins. In Forests, Plains, and similar biomes, this happens about a quarter of the time. In mountains or extreme hills, it happens fairly rarely, while deep oceans often will not have Mix Veins below them.
